School Textbooks Review Initiative
Most of the information in the school text books about Hinduism and India continue to be skewed and often repeats the same old views expressed by 18th century European historians. While majority of the misinformation in the books is due to the ignorance of the authors in correctly understanding Hinduism and India, it can also be attributed to the lack of proactive role by Hindus and Indians in correcting such misinformation. HEF has taken this as an initiative to identify and correct the misinformation in all the states where text books come for review. Check News & Events section for latest information.
Seminars to School Teachers
Many School Teachers have approached us for guidance on how to understand Hinduism and India better so that they can teach the subject accurately to the students. Most of the time, the subjects on Hinduism and India are taught by non-Hindus or non-Indians who are trying to collect correct information. So HEF has taken the initiative to arrange brief seminars as part of staff professional Development effort through various school districts. The seminar is an informative session on Hinduism and India followed by explanations of some of the rituals and functions celebrated by Hindus. Most of the sessions are conducted by local Hindus and Indians who knows the information first-hand. Check News & Events section for latest information.
Additional Initiatives
Work with teachers to provide multimedia presentations to students on topics related to Hinduism and India to remove misconceptions created due to inaccuracies in the current textbooks. Create a resource for parents who wish to provide such opportunities for educators in their local areas. Scholarships to encourage studies related to Hindu topics of interest. Annual Souvenirs on different themes of Hindu culture and Civilization. Check News & Events section for latest information. |
